In 1961 we hitched up the Airstream trailer to the back of the family station wagon and drove east to Hershey, Pennsylvania for the international Wally Byam Caravan Club summer rally. Several hundred Airstream travel trailers converged on a large open field just outside of town. What a good time we had during that week. There were activities for all ages and tours of the Amish country. Luckily there was a swimming pool nearby and we spent some quality time splashing around in the pool. There were pot luck dinners and entertainment in the evenings. During the day us kids got to walk around the rally site and find other kids our age to talk to. Airstream trailers are very distinctive looking with their shiny aluminum outside shell. One trailer glistens in the sun...many trailers send up a blinding glare. And, we loved it. Pictures of Airstream trailer rallys (local, statewide or international) always made the newspaper when a rally was held nearby. And, when an Airstream caravan travelled down the road in one long continuous line, people took notice. Those were the days. It was a simpler time, for sure, and I was a kid at the time. No worries. Anyway, enjoy the view of the sea of shiny aluminum trailers at a rally in Pennsylvania in the early 1960's.

what an airstream rally looks like
