the twins birthday-July 12, 1956

This is one of my favorite birthday pictures.  The twins were turning seven and they were enjoying a picnic party in Washington D.C.  This was the summer of 1956 and we were touring the east coast. We were also visiting our relatives, Beverly and Joe, who lived in our nation's capitol.  They set up this lovely surprise party (complete with hanging balloons and a scrumptious cake) in their back yard.  It looks like Susan and Steven might be opening gifts of books.  Enjoy the party!!

party time

Let the celebrations begin!!  There's a big event coming tomorrow and I can feel the excitement in the air.  Look at these faces.  How happy are they??  Very!  Especially the little girl in the pink dress and the stylish glasses.  And her twin brother?  Wowsers, look at his sharp looking shirt.  OK, get out the lawn chairs.  It's time to party.

Hamburg walking tour 2013

My sister and I were visiting Hamburg, Germany during the summer of 2013.  We decided to join a walking tour of the central part of the city.  Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed our walk-about.  I wonder what it would be like to live along the canal in one of these apartments.

hanging on or launching?

I love this picture.  I am just learning how to walk and at this point I am holding on to the couch for support.  I can't tell if I am about to launch myself forward or just stand there and think about it.

three babies

1948 was a big year for my grandma.  That was the year that three new grandchildren were added to the family.  My grandma is holding me.  I was born in January.  My Aunt Ruth, who is standing on the far right, is holding Robert. He was born in February.  My Aunt Doris (in the center) is holding Nancy.  She was born in June.  These babies are actually numbers four, five and six in a group of grandchildren that will eventually include seventeen members of this generation.  And she loved every one of us.
